From Proto-Austroasiatic *ɗaːk (“water”). Cognates from other Mon-Khmer languages: Northern Khmer ตึก, Bahnar đak, Eastern Mnong dak, Pacoh dâq/dơq, Vietnamese nước and Central Nicobarese râk/dâk.
